Alejandro Garnacho has apologised for the social media ‘likes’ that led to him being reprimanded by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Garnacho welcomed comments claiming Ten Hag had ‘thrown him under the bus’ by taking the Argentina winger off at half-time in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

The United boss spoke to Garnacho in training on Sunday and a number of his teammates were also said to be unhappy over his actions.

But Ten Hag believes the 19-year-old has learned from the incident and is keen to put it behind them ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Coventry at Wembley.

Asked if the incident is in danger of showing discord in the dressing-room, Ten Hag said: ‘I wouldn’t point to that. Alejandro is a young player, has to learn a lot.

‘He apologised for it and after that we move on.’

United were satisfied that Garnacho ‘unliked’ the comments once the error was pointed out to him after the match at the Vitality Stadium.

He was also viewed more sympathetically than Jadon Sancho who criticised Ten Hag on social media after he was left out of a game at Arsenal at the start of this season.

Sancho was made to train on his own at United’s Carrington training complex for the next four months and then sent out on loan to his former club Borussia Dortmund.
